My Story

On a brisk October day 25+ years ago I was walking the beach in Maine with my black lab mix when I conveniently bumped in to an acquaintance I hadn't seen for 5 years. I was up for a life change and was open to pretty much anything having grown tired of long, cold winters and seeing my recent graduate school opportunity disappear due to funding cuts. Little did I know this walk on the beach would change my life forever. When I was close enough to see it was Marilyn who was happily wrestling with my dog, the joyful reunion began and ended with an offer for me to rent out her home on Siesta Key she and her husband had bought 2 years prior but hadn't had a chance to visit yet. Seriously? I had never been to Florida before but a warm, sunny tropical beach sure did sound better than wind chills of 20 below! Two days for a yard sale and 3 days on the road until I arrived in Sarasota with my furry black friend by my side. With $160 in my pocket; no job, no one I knew, an uninhabited house full of surprises what did I have to lose? Come to find out- absolutely nothing! With the happy addition of a wonderful husband and 2 fabulous children, the more I have become a part of this community the more I love it and realize how much it has to offer everyone willing take the chance and call it home!
